The fine fraction contained in the these fine crudes tend to be unduly removed as rejects during flotation so that there are lower recovery rates. More froth is produced, with more fines being lost. In principle, therefore, it would be desirable not to subject these fine crudes to froth flotation processing, but rather to beneficiate them solely by techniques appropriate to them.
